ORTHODONTICS

It is the specialty of dentistry in charge of studying, preventing and treating alterations in dental and maxillofacial development, with the aim of providing ideal morphological and functional dental and facial conditions. Therefore, with orthodontics, in addition to looking for an excellent esthetic, we also pursue a good functionality, that is, a normal occlusion to be able to carry out a correct mastication.

There are various types of malocclusions, therefore each treatment is individualized and personalized for each specific patient. Even for the same malocclusion, different treatments may be required, since collaboration, age and other aspects of the patient must be taken into account, because no two patients are the same.

It is essential to plan each case, and good communication with the patient to agree and establish the objectives to be achieved in each treatment.

Planning

Something essential before starting is to have a treatment plan. Good planning is the key to success; For this reason, we always carry out a previous orthodontic study, which consists of taking photographs of the patient, x-rays, study models, and mounting them in an articulator.

Explanation

Subsequently, the patient is explained the various treatment options, explaining the pros and cons of each one. For us it is very important that the patient is duly informed and be able to make decisions regarding treatment options and their stages.

Orthodontic treatment can be carried out with different devices:

metal brackets

They are the conventional brackets, the most used up to now, and what comes to mind when thinking about orthodontics.
It consists of adhering the brackets to the teeth; to later join the brackets with an elastic arch that is in charge of aligning the teeth. This arch is held together with the brackets by elastic (colored) or metallic ligatures.
They are comfortable, because even though they are metallic, they have rounded and polished edges so as not to cause injuries. They are also the most resistant.

aesthetic brackets

Similar to metallic ones in terms of shape and treatment technique.
They are made of a ceramic or sapphire material, thus blending in with the teeth, which provides greater aesthetics.
It is one of the most popular options for adult patients who want to show off a perfect smile and hide the process as much as possible.

Self-ligating brackets

It is a type of orthodontics that does not use any ligature to join the brackets with the archwires, but rather does so through clips that are incorporated into the brackets themselves, which is why they are called self-ligating.
It is a low friction orthodontic technique, so the effects of the treatment begin to be noticed earlier and in some cases the total treatment time is reduced.
An advantage of this type of brackets is that the visits are faster in the consultation and the appointments can be spaced to 2 months.

invisible braces

It consists of an orthodontic technique that uses transparent splints or aligners, which are changed periodically until the desired alignment and occlusion is achieved.
Each aligner has a dental micro-movement introduced, which are previously programmed in a 3D planning.
Unlike the previous types of orthodontics, invisible orthodontics is removable, that is, the aligners can be removed from the mouth, making it a revolutionary orthodontic system that allows you to eat without wearing them and of course guarantees optimal hygiene.

Interceptive orthodontics / children's orthopedics

It is aimed at the little ones, aged between 4 and 12 years.
It is what is called "First stage" of orthodontics.
There is a diversity of devices, which can be fixed or removable and even a combination of both.
Purposes: Control and direct the direction of growth of the maxillary bones. Provide enough space for permanent teeth. Avoid future surgeries, which is sometimes the only solution for certain malocclusions.
On many occasions, a second stage with fixed orthodontics is necessary to finish settling the occlusion and achieve optimal aesthetics.
